Lots of Food Drives

MCCM has benefited from several large food drives recently. Thanks in advance for your extra effort sorting the food and stocking the shelves.

October Bonus Days

Thank you volunteers for making the October Bonus Days event a success. The four Bonus Days events held in 2013, we were able to distribute approximately 65,000 pounds of food to 1,200 families. Your hard work made these events possible.

Thanks also to Melissa Blevins and her team at the Chattanooga Area Food Bank for donating the food, delivering it to MCCM, and helping to distribute the food to our neighbors.

Thank You Marion County

Recently the Jasper Journal and the South Pittsburg Hustler ran a feature story by Marion County Newspaper’s Publisher, Melissa Brown, outlining the needs of the MCCM Food Bank. The newspapers documented that MCCM has witnessed a large growth in the number of our neighbors who need the services of the MCCM Food Bank. The increased demand and the higher costs of food resulted in a crisis for MCCM.

The response to this story by the people of Marion County has been overwhelming. County and city governments, banks, schools, businesses, and churches have conducted food drives. Individuals have donated food and money.

To the wonderful and generous people of Marion County: Thank you.

SPHS and MCHS Food Fight

The South Pittsburg Pirates may have defeated the Marion County Warriors 35 – 17 on Friday night, November 1, but the real winners of the night are our hungry neighbors in Marion County. WRCB, Channel 3 of Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank(CAFB) sponsored a food drive at the two schools to benefit the Marion County Community Ministries(MCCM) Food Bank.

In the week preceding the big game students at both schools filled barrels with canned food. On Friday night at the game volunteers from MCCM and CAFB collected bags of canned goods brought by fans from both schools.

At the end of the night 1,338 pounds of food and $60.00 in cash had been collected. This represent about 1,355 meals.

Thank you Pirates and Warriors.
