Volunteers

Our volunteers are the front line troops in the War on Hunger. Most of our volunteers are regularly scheduled to work at the food bank when we are open. We have our unsung “Hunger Heros” who work behind the scenes driving, loading, unloading our truck and trucks from the Chattanooga Food Bank. Some of our volunteers work special events such as the “MCHS vs SPHS Food Fight” prior to the big game, or the WRCB-TV “Share Your Christmas” event, or the Bonus Days events in 2013. Some serve on our Board of Directors.

We treasure each and every one of you and thank you for your service to Marion County.

January Newsletter Delayed

I know you eagerly check your email Inbox on the first day of each month in anticipation of receiving the MCCM monthly newsletter, so I know how disappointed you must have been when it did not appear.

We delayed publication of the January Newsletter because of some pending MCCM Board business. Board meetings are usually held early in the month but this month the meeting is on January 14, a trifle too late for a January edition (I guess we could have called it the pert-near-February edition).

Marion County Newspapers Cookbook Sale

MCCM was presented with a check for over $800.00 by Melissa Brown, Publisher of the Marion County Newspapers. The $800 represents the profits from the sale of Cookbooks.

The newspaper had cookbooks left over from a previous cookbook sale and they were taking up space in their offices. They decided to sell them at a discount and give the proceeds to MCCM: a very creative solution to 2 problems.

Jasper Journal Top 10 Stories for 2013

The Jasper Journal on January 7, 2014 ran a front page feature on the Top 10 Stories for 2013. MCCM was featured as the number 6 story.

As you may recall, we had a major shortfall in contributions of food and money. We were in danger of not being able to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters in Marion County. Melissa Brown wrote a feature story, published in the Journal and the Hustler, describing our plight.

The outpouring of food and money from the people of Marion County was overwhelming.

Thank you Melissa Brown and Marion County Newspapers for your support of this ministry.

2013 Food Bank Results

We broke all of our records for the Food Bank in 2013. It would not have been possible without the generosity of our neighbors in Marion County and our dedicated and hardworking volunteer force. Thank you!
