Unless you have worked on a mild day of late you will have noticed that we are having problems with the heat and air. Recently during a recent severe cold snap we had to close 2 days because the building was too cold for us to open.
The Board is working on the problem and we hope to have a solution soon.
Thanks for your patience.
The Tuesday before Thanksgiving has always been the busiest day of the year for our food bank. For example in 2014, we had 120 of our neighbors come in for food and 171 boxes were given to neighbors. If that wasn’t busy enough we enrolled 8 new neighbor families.
The volunteers filling boxes did a great job but they were exhausted trying to keep up with the demand.
This year we want to hold a BOX FILLING PIZZA PARTY on the Monday before Thanksgiving with the goal of having 200 boxes filled awaiting distribution.
On Monday, November 23 at 10am we will need volunteers to help fill these boxes. As an incentive, we will provide pizzas for lunch.
if you can help, please let Gary or Ginger (228-9004) by clicking the link below:
Yes, I can help fill boxes on Monday, November 23 from 10am until noon…
Welcome and thank you to our new volunteers, Kim Sisk, Joy Downum, Eva Malaspino, Karen & Charles Case, Connie Johnson, and Vickie Wells.
Please make them feel welcome.
If you would like a key to the building, please let Ginger know.
Have you ever gotten to MCCM on your assigned day and realized that you and your fellow workers have forgotten your key?
There is a spare key in a lock box attached to the wooden deck/ramp on the front of the building. The combination is the same code as the code you use to activate/deactivate the burglar alarm.
The next meeting of the MCCM Board of Directors is scheduled for July 21, 2015, 5:30PM at the Jasper First Baptist Church.
Please remember, when filling food boxes, to ensure that the content of the boxes adheres to these guidelines:
- 2 cans of condensed soup
- 2 cans of vegetables
- 1 can of chili or beef stew
- 1 can of tuna
- 1 can of spaghetti sauce
- 1 1lb box of spaghetti noodles
- 1 box cereal
- 1 box of mac and cheese
- 2 cans of pinto, northern, or kidney beans
- 1 package of cornbread mix
We have been out of cereal frequently lately and occasionally out of mac and cheese. When we are out of an item on the list please substitute with items from the ‘extra’ shelves. If we have frozen items in the freezers out front and someone is out there to distribute these items it may not be necessary to substitute anything else.
Thanks for all your hard work in the fight against hunger in Marion County.
Gary and Ginger
The current release of the Food Bank and Good Neighbors software has served us for several years. However, there are some bugs, confusions and aggravations that need to be fixed.
The new release of our software fixes these things. Most of the new software works the same as its predecessor. There are enough differences to need some training on finding everything you are used to and to understand some of the new features.
We have a brief training class scheduled before we install the new software. The class should take no more than an hour and a half.
We have scheduled two sessions:
- Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 1:00PM
- Saturday February 14, 2015 at 1:00PM
If you are trained on the current version of the Food Bank or Good Neighbors software please try to attend one of these sessions.
With the increase in demand for food boxes comes an increase in the frequency of food orders and trucks backing up to the door. We are having to order more food and the nearly-weekly WalMart donation on Fridays has increased. Derrald Beck and his crew doing a great job of staying on top of it. However, they would not mind a little help from time-to-time. If you can be available or know someone who can, please let Derrald know at his email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
The new release of the software is essentially finished. This means that the software is a release-candidate. We are also nearing the two busiest months of the year. One of the major lessons learned in my 40 years of software development is that it is never a good idea to release major releases during critical periods. The MCCM Board has approved deferring the release until January 2015. During the intervening months we will continue parallel testing with our “Desk” folks as time permits and get their suggestions and feedback.
Closer to the release date we will conduct a series of training sessions to familiarize our folks who work the front desk. Stay tuned!
