Meet Our Board

The Rev. Derrald Beck, President

Derrald was born in Flagstaff, Arizona, and moved to California as an infant.  His childhood education included attending several grades in a one-room classroom in Redwood Creek, California.  After a four-year stint in the Air Force, he obtained his Bachelor degree at California State University, Long Beach, and completed his graduate work at Pepperdine University and Missouri State University.  His responsibilities as an ordained Baptist minister, classroom teacher and school administrator took Derrald and his family from California to Missouri, Florida, Michigan and Tennessee before his retirement in 1999.  He serves as vice moderator of the Sequatchie Valley Baptist Association.  Additionally, he is an adult Sunday School teacher at Baptist Hill Church in Jasper, where he and his wife, Darlene, are active members.  They have four children and ten grandchildren. In addition to serving as the President of the MCCM Board he manages our storeroom inventory.

The Rev. Gary England, Vice-President

Gary is married to Ginger England and they have three grown children.  In 2000 they retired and moved from Atlanta to the Sequatchie Valley.  Gary was a software engineer with BellSouth for 30 years and Hewlett-Packard for 10 years.  In 2001, he entered into the discernment process for ordination in the Episcopal Church.  In January of 2006 he was ordained and assigned to Christ Church Episcopal in South Pittsburg.  He has been involved with MCCM since 2000 and he currently serves as Vice-President of the Board.  He maintains our website, and our Client Management System software.

George Jackson, Treasurer

George was reared in Victoria, Tennessee.  He graduated from Whitwell High School in 1964 as valedictorian.  He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a BS in Accounting.  He served as the Student Government Treasurer while at MTSU.  Upon graduation, he married the lovely Glenna Wells.  They have two children, Gwen who is a librarian and Gena who is a psychologist.  George is a member of McKendree United Methodist Church where he has served as Treasurer for over 20 years.  After serving in the Army in Vietnam, George passed the CPA exam and became a Certified Public Accountant.  He was recruited by Arthur Andersen & Co and practiced with them for over twelve years.  Before opening his own practice in Jasper, George functioned as Chief Financial Officer of Miller Reid, Inc.  George retired from his accounting practice in 2009 and currently enjoys traveling and volunteering.  In addition to being a life member of the American Institute of CPA’s, George has always believed in giving back to the community.  Some of his civic work includes the County Fair, Chamber of Commerce, SERTOMA club, Solid Waste Disposal, Inc., Marion County Environmental and Industrial Board, Hooper Scholars, G I Brown Trust, Brown Children’s Trust, Donal Matthews Trust and others.

Charles McEntyre, Secretary

Charlie was raised in Whitwell, Tennessee and graduated from Whitwell High School in 1968. He has a BA in Biology from Vanderbilt University and a MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Alabama and a Master Level Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. Charlie worked for TVA for 38 years in various environmental engineering positions before retiring in 2012. He married his lovely wife Ruthie Stamper McEntyre in 1972 and they have one daughter and two grandsons. Ruthie was an elementary school teacher and librarian and also retired in 2012.

Charlie and Ruthie are active members of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church where Charles is currently serving as lay leader. Charles is also assistant chief of the Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department which he joined in 1976. Charlie is also in the Crossroads Ruritan Club where he is currently serving as secretary.

Sam Anderson

Sam  Anderson was born in Chattanooga, Tn.   Educated in Marion Co. except for two years at military school in mid-sixties.  I attended several colleges, one being Samford University that I enrolled thinking I wanted to get a pharmacy degree.  Several things happened that made me change direction.  I then received a B.S. in applied organizational management from Tusculum College. I have worked for a national photography company, a local hospital and then for State of Tennessee. I have been married for 44 years to a beautiful lady I met on blind date my junior year in high school.  We have two children and four grandchildren. My wife and I are active at First Baptist Church Jasper.

Sherry Barnett

Sherry Barnett has lived in Marion County since 1959 and graduated
from high school in South Pittsburg, Tn. She grew up in Decatur, Al
where her extended family lives, Further education was completed at
Tennessee Wesleyan University where she graduated with a major in
business. After graduation she completed 21 hours of graduate
business studies at UTC. She is married to Bob Barnett and they have
two children and three grandchildren. After high school she worked at
both Pittsburg Knitting Mills and U. S. Stove in South Pittsburg for a total
of approximately seven years. She left to take a position with the
Tennessee Valley Authority where she was employed in the business
area for thirty years, and after as a contractor for over two additional
years. She has been a volunteer at the Marion County food bank for
over twelve years, in addition she is an active volunteer for the TVA
retirees group (BVI) staffing TVA visitors centers.

Scott Collier

Scott Collier grew up in Wilson County Tennessee.  He attended Middle Tennessee State University where he earned a BS in Psychology with minors in Philosophy and Sociology.  More importantly, it was while at MTSU that he met his wife Cristy Moss Collier.  After college Scott worked for Aerotek, an information technology firm, as a Contracts Manager and Account Executive for Fortune 500 companies and Government Agencies.  He went on to work as a Business Development Consultant for Microsoft / Quilogy which handled large scale software development projects for Healthcare, Financial, Entertainment and Government clients.  His latest position was with a start-up contract / consulting IT firm Rezult working as Director of Business Development.

Scott and Cristy moved to South Pittsburg (her hometown) in 2007.  They have two sons; Moss 9 and Locke 6.  Since moving to Marion County Scott has worked with The National Cornbread Festival, most recently organizing the recycling efforts there.  He also worked with others to start the South Pittsburg Recycling Center and is a board member of South Pittsburg Youth Soccer.  Scott is the Chairman of the South Pittsburg Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals as well as a member of the South Pittsburg Lions Club.  He has volunteered at MCCM for the past few years.

Ginger England, Volunteer Coordinator

After raising three children and living in Atlanta for 35 years, my husband Gary and I retired and moved to Marion county in 2000. We met at FSU and married in 1963. I was an elementary and pre-school teacher off and on while raising the children. We are active members at Christ Church and I serve the Marion county food bank as co-manager in charge of volunteer scheduling and training, and correspondence secretary. It has been a joy to be a part of MCCM for the last eleven-plus years.

Jim Gohlmann

Jim Gohlmann was born, raised, and educated in Kansas City, Mo.  He is a widower having outlived two spouses, Gloria and Patty.  He has seven children.  Jim retired from Variform in 1995.  While with Variform Jim was transferred to Marion County to oversee the construction and startup of Marion County Variform plant.  Jim is a very active volunteer holding positions in several organizations in Marion County.  In addition to serving MCCM on our board and working in the Food Bank, he currently volunteers with the Alzheimer’s Association, Grandview Hospital, Boy Scouts, the Bridge – Alzheimer’s Wing, and his Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Ed Hooper

Edward Hooper is a lifelong resident of Whitwell.  He attended public schools in Whitwell through 8th grade.  Beginning 9th grade he enrolled at Baylor School where he graduated from high school.  A graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in pharmacy, Edward practiced pharmacy at Hooper Drug in Whitwell for 40 years.  Edward is married to Linda Morrison Hooper.  They have 2 sons and 5 grandchildren.  Edward is an active member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church and Whitwell Masonic Lodge # 563.  He has been working at Marion County Community Ministries Food Bank for the past 3 years.
